Data Download Guide
This guide explains how to:
- Obtain or switch a Mnova license
- Activate Mnova on your computer
- Install and configure CrossFTP
- Download your NMR data from Emory servers
Follow the steps in order to ensure successful setup and data access.
If you do not yet have a Mnova license—or need to switch licenses—you must first register your computer with the Mnova license server.
To obtain or switch a Mnova license:
- Download a free trial of Mnova NMR from mestrelab.com
- Open Mnova. If an error message appears, you may close it.
- In Mnova, go to Help License Manager .
- Locate and record your computer’s Host ID. You may copy and paste the Host ID for accuracy.
- Complete the Mnova License Form using your Host ID.
After your Host ID is registered with the IT‑managed license server, a license file will be sent to you by email.
Once you receive your Mnova license file, you must activate Mnova on the Emory campus network.
To activate Mnova:
- Download and save the Mnova license file to your computer.
- Connect to the Emory campus network:
- Use a wired Ethernet connection, or
- Connect to EmoryUnplugged WiFi
- Open Mnova and follow the on‑screen instructions to install the license.
- Alternatively, go to Help Get / Install Licenses.
- Complete the activation process.
After activation, Mnova can be used offline for up to three months. After three months, you must reconnect to the Emory campus network to reactivate.
CrossFTP is used to securely download NMR data from the server.
Download CrossFTP from Emory Software Express:
- Visit Emory Software Express.
- Log in using your Emory Network credentials.
- Scroll down and click Agree.
- Locate CrossFTP 1.99.6 and click Download.
- Double‑click the downloaded file to install CrossFTP.
Mac users
If you see an error such as “XXX cannot be opened”:
- Go to Apple menu System Preferences Security & Privacy General
- Make sure “App Store and identified developers” is selected under Allow apps downloaded from
- Alternatively, download the installer using the Chrome browser
Once installed, configure CrossFTP as follows:
- Open CrossFTP
- Select File Connect
- Enter the following settings:
- Protocol: SFTP/SSH
- Label: Any name you choose
- Host: 170.140.188.78
- Port: 22
- User Name: Your group username
- Password: Your group password (Ask a member of your research group if needed)
- Remote Path:
/media/nmr_data - Local Path: Choose a folder on your computer where files will be saved
- Click Apply, then click Connect
Navigate to the folder that corresponds to the instrument you used:
